Questions and Answers about Registration
Is there a space available next year for every child currently attending Wesley Preschool?
Current Wesley families are able to register in January before the registration opens for the general public. If you would like to continue at Wesley Preschool, it is important to register in January when you have priority enrollment.
How do I know how many days of school my child will be ready for next fall?
Parents consider many factors in choosing their child’s program, including the child’s age, emotional maturity, academic readiness, costs, other planned activities during the week, and the schedules of siblings. The child’s current teacher will be happy to discuss this with you and to make recommendations. The parent-teacher conference in winter is a good time for this conversation. The preschool director is always available to talk with you about the different options.
Are all of the teachers returning in the fall?
Staffing decisions are made in the spring. Wesley preschool teachers will sign contracts for the new school year in May 2023. Turnover is rare at Wesley Preschool. Please remember that a teacher can request a change in schedule or age group each year.
May I request a particular teacher for my child?
The preschool director is happy to discuss your child’s placement with you. Since children are grouped by birthdates, it can be difficult to honor a request for a specific teacher. Older children who are eligible for kindergarten but are staying another year at Wesley will be given special consideration.
If space is available, will I automatically get the class schedule I select?
Wesley Preschool will give serious consideration to your class preference, but other placement factors will be considered. It is our goal to create balanced classrooms that maximize the experience and learning of all students.
May I request my child be placed with one of his/her friends?
You may make the request but it may be difficult to place children together unless they have similar birthdates and the parents request the same program.
How will I know now that my child will be toilet trained in the fall?
You may not. Having to stress over toilet training in the summer is not fun. If you do not want the stress, enroll your young child in the program that does not require independent toilet training skills. There are always a handful of older children in that program and will be grouped according to age.
If I enroll my young three in the 2 1/2 year old program and the child becomes toilet trained during the year, can he/she change to a three year old program?
Typically, this is not an option. Children bond with their friends and teachers and find a change in the middle of the year to be disconcerting.
If my child misses the cutoff date for a class by a day or two, will you consider his/her maturity, my work schedule, or continuing with his older friends and place him in the older class?
No, please do not ask for special consideration or an exception from our policies.
What we would like you to understand about registration
Our goal is to make everyone happy at registration and throughout the year. It is our experience that all families are pleased with their child’s placement when school begins. Wesley “graduates” are well prepared for kindergarten regardless of the number of days they attended preschool. All of our teachers are loving, nurturing and quality educators who show, by example, Christ’s way of love, acceptance and forgiveness. Preschool is a time for joy and laughter for students and parents. As your children progress from elementary school through middle and high school to college, you will be grateful for the peace of preschool.
