This policy has been approved by the Preschool Advisory Board on Thursday, August 25, 2022
Wesley Preschool’s COVID-19 policy is consistent with guidelines followed by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
Students who tested positive or have been diagnosed with COVID-19
• Wesley Preschool will align with the isolation timeline recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
• Your child may return to in-person instruction and activities when your child has met the following criteria:
o Student has completed at least five days of isolation; AND
o Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND
o Student’s symptoms have improved or resolved
o Student wears a well-fitting mask for 5 additional days (day 6 through day 10) after the end of the 5-day isolation period OR
o For students who are unable/unwilling to mask for days 6-10, VDH recommends a negative rapid antigen test (includes home test) on or after day 6. Wesley Preschool will require a negative test to return to school.
Students who have been identified as a close contact to someone with COVID-19
• Should monitor for symptoms in next 10 days, and if symptoms develop, follow the isolation procedures above.
• When a student is identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 exposure and is asymptomatic, quarantine is no longer recommended.
• Students may consider wearing a mask around others indoors until day 10.
• These students are not required to submit documentation to Wesley Preschool to resume in-person activities.
Notifications to School Community, Outbreak Reporting and Focused Contact Tracing
• Based on updated guidance from the Virginia Department of Health, schools are no longer expected to conduct contact tracing on every individual case of COVID-19.
• Wesley Preschool will monitor cases of COVID-19 in the school community and report suspected outbreaks to the (VDH). A suspected outbreak is when there are three or more positive cases identified in the same classroom within 14 days of each other.
Face Masks
• Wesley Preschool is mask optional for staff, students, and visitors.
• When the CDC COVID-19 Community Level is high, Wesley Preschool recommends that all students and staff wear a face covering when indoors (except while actively eating/drinking) on school/church property.
Guidance for Outdoor Playground Areas
• Face masks are not required outdoors or on the outdoor playground areas; however, students who wish to wear face masks during recess should feel free to do so.
